History

Back Twelve is an independent consulting business founded by me, Kevin O’Brien, in 2019. The name “Back Twelve” is a reference to my return to consulting after 12 years in IT on the customer/client side of the industry.

After graduating from Penn State with an Electrical Engineering degree, I took a leap of faith to enter the unknown world of consulting. As an inexperienced resource, you hope to land on an interesting project and soak everything up from those who know what they’re doing. I was fortunate to find my way onto a set of projects that focused on regulated content management solutions using Documentum. Those projects, and the people I was lucky enough to meet along the way, set the tone for my career. I took a brief detour into the world of SharePoint and worked on projects with the U.S. Army and Department of Defense. A desire to relocate back to my home state of Pennsylvania pulled me back to Documentum.

I had worked for over 7 years in consulting when a full-time opportunity arose at one of my clients - Wyeth. Eager to settle into a more stable gig, I made the jump and used all I had learned to help shape the systems I supported for users around the world. This also gave me a better opportunity to pursue an MBA, laying the groundwork for launching my own business.

In 2013, a few years after Pfizer had acquired Wyeth, a decision was made to split off the animal health business into a new company - Zoetis. I was given the opportunity to build a global document management service from scratch by forming a team and choosing the best solution for the new company. With the help of many amazing colleagues, we chose Veeva Vault to be our single system across all business lines. In my 6 years managing that service, I’ve built up a wealth of knowledge, made many key contacts across the industry, and developed a desire to do see what else can be done with the product.
